Privacy Policy
Last updated 2026-10-19
This policy covers the Night Gaze Camp mobile app and the website nightgazecamp.com. Today the app is released on Android only (Google Play, listed as Stargaze Camp: Aurora & Stars); the iPhone and iPad version is not released yet, and the parts of this page about iPhone and Apple apply from its release. The short version: no accounts, no advertising, no tracking, no analytics; your location stays on your phone; payments are handled by Google (and by Apple once the iPhone app is out). The only form on the website is the optional e-mail box for the iPhone app on the app page, described under “Website” below.
Who is responsible
This website is operated by SKYSEED TECH LLC. For any privacy-related inquiries, please contact support@nightgazecamp.com.
The app
Location
If you allow it, the app reads your approximate or precise location to sort campgrounds by distance and drive time. Your location is processed on your phone and is never sent to our servers, never stored by us and never linked to you. You can refuse location access and choose a place by hand instead.
Drive times (iPhone, not released yet)
On iPhone (from its release), drive times are calculated by Apple Maps (MapKit). To do this, the app sends the start point (your location or the place you chose) and the campground’s coordinates to Apple, which handles them under Apple’s privacy policy. On Android the app estimates drive time from the straight-line distance on the phone and sends nothing.
Weather and aurora data
To show cloud forecasts, the app asks a service we run on Cloudflare, which relays public data from the US National Weather Service. The request contains only the centre point of the roughly 55 km forecast grid cell around the campground; it never contains your own location. Like any internet request it also carries your IP address, which we use only to deliver the response and to limit abuse, without building profiles or keeping it beyond short-lived operational logs. Aurora data from NOAA is requested the same way and is not specific to you.
Offline state packs
Offline packs are downloaded from our servers. The download request carries your IP address, like any internet request, and the name of the state pack. The files are saved on your device in a folder that is visible in the Files app, where you can delete them.
Compass and widget
The compass uses your phone’s orientation sensors on the device only; readings are never uploaded. On iPhone (from its release), the home-screen widget shows a short summary of tonight’s best campground, stored only in a folder shared between the app and the widget on your phone.
Notifications
- Clear-night reminders are scheduled on your phone (local notifications) and send nothing to us.
- Aurora alerts (push notifications) are not part of this version of the app. If we add them later, this page will say exactly what is stored on our server before they are offered.
Purchases
Pro (a one-time purchase, not a subscription) is processed by Apple or Google. We never see your card or payment details. The app asks the store whether you own a purchase so it can unlock features. Refunds are handled in your App Store or Google Play account.
Saved items on your phone
Your favourite campgrounds, trips, settings and downloaded offline packs are stored on your phone. Deleting the app deletes them. When you export a trip as PDF or calendar file, the file is created on your phone and goes wherever you share it.
What we do not collect
We do not ask for your name or email, do not use advertising identifiers, do not show ads, do not use third-party analytics or crash-reporting SDKs, and do not track you across apps or websites.
The website
nightgazecamp.com is a set of static pages with no comments, cookies set by us, advertising or analytics scripts. Our hosting provider (Cloudflare) records standard technical data for each request, such as IP address, time, page and browser, for security and to keep the site running. If you email us, we receive your address and message and use them only to reply.
iPhone app notification list
The app page has an optional box for people who want the iPhone and iPad version. Using it is not required for anything on the site.
- What we collect: the email address you enter, the page you used it on, the date and time, and the country your connection comes from (worked out roughly from your IP address by our hosting provider; we do not store the IP address with your entry).
- What we use it for: one email when the iPhone and iPad app is available, and to count how many people are interested. No newsletter, no ads, no sharing or selling.
- Where it is kept: in a private Cloudflare Workers KV store (Cloudflare hosts this site). The form sets no cookie and uses no third-party script.
- How long we keep it: until we have sent that one email, and in any case no longer than 24 months after you joined; then we delete it.
- Deleting your entry: email support@nightgazecamp.com from that address, or tell us the address, and we delete it.
To limit abuse, the form counts how many times each IP address submits it per minute; that counter is deleted automatically after two minutes.
Your rights
If you are in the EEA, the UK, California or another place with a privacy law, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or object to processing of personal data about you. Because the app has no accounts, we can usually identify data only if you email it to us. Write to support@nightgazecamp.com and we will answer. We do not sell personal information or share it for targeted advertising.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Security and retention
Traffic to our services uses HTTPS. Email is kept only as long as needed to answer you.
Changes
If the app or website changes what it does with data, we will update this page and its date before the change takes effect.
